About Me

Who Am I?

About Me - Mr. Burke

I am Marcus Burke, an enthusiastic educator with an unwavering passion for teaching and learning. From a young age, I always knew I wanted to be a teacher. I was inspired by my own teachers and often emulated them in pretend teaching sessions with friends and family. I have always believed in the transformative power of education, and my experiences have only reinforced this conviction.

Growing up, I attended a low-performing school in an economically deprived neighbourhood in inner London. Despite the challenges, hard work and determination paid off, and I was able to achieve academic success. This journey is what drives me to teach today—to instil the same ethic of perseverance and love of learning in my students.

Experience

With over a decade of teaching experience, I have worked extensively with students from all walks of life. My teaching journey has taken me to London, South Korea, The Gambia, and the Caribbean. In addition to teaching in the classroom, I have taken on leadership roles such as Head of Year, Head of English, Lead Practitioner for English, and a member of the Teaching and Learning Team. I have taught up to A-Level in both English and Sociology, as well as internationally, including IGCSE. I also have over five years of online teaching experience, which has helped me develop a deep understanding of effective pedagogy in this area. All of these experiences have contributed to my growth as an outstanding teacher, allowing me to create impactful learning environments for my students.

Beyond the traditional classroom, I have worked with vulnerable adults, helping them gain literacy and communication skills to foster independence and empowerment. This experience has made me deeply aware of the transformative power of education and has driven me to be a voice for the vulnerable and a champion for diversity. I have led many in-house initiatives to promote educational excellence and ensure that learning extends beyond the classroom, becoming an integral part of the school culture.

About Mr. Burke's Classroom

About Us

Established in 2023, Mr. Burke’s Classroom is more than just an online learning platform—it is a community focused on providing high-quality education tailored to meet the needs of every student. I believe in empowering students with the skills and knowledge to succeed academically while nurturing confidence and curiosity.

Our mission is to create an inclusive and supportive learning environment that recognizes the unique strengths of each student and helps them thrive. Our services reflect this mission through personalised learning pathways, continuous feedback, and a focus on skills development.

Our Services:

  • Home School Academy: Offers a structured learning experience for students being homeschooled, aligned with the UK curriculum.
  • Weekend Academy: Booster lessons designed to support and enhance students’ regular school education, focusing on confidence-building and exam preparation.
  • 1-to-1 Tuition: Personalised lessons tailored to meet individual student needs, ensuring targeted support that yields real results.

At Mr. Burke’s Classroom, each student is given access to their own Google Classroom portal, which allows them to revisit lessons, download materials, complete homework, and receive personalised feedback. The platform also serves as a bridge between parents and teachers, making communication seamless and ensuring that parents are involved in their child’s progress.

Community Impact
and Charity Work

I am deeply committed to using my skills and platform to uplift others and make a tangible impact in my community. My work with the Bangla Tingz charity is a testament to this. I have supported language exchange initiatives, fostering connections between Bangladeshi and English-speaking communities in East London. These initiatives are about more than just language; they celebrate cultural diversity, foster mutual respect, and promote community learning.

I have also worked with the Say My Name charity, providing mentoring and educational support to LGBT young people across London. It has been incredibly meaningful to help these individuals navigate both their academic paths and personal challenges, encouraging them to embrace their identities with confidence.

In addition, I have collaborated with Haringey Council in London, mentoring young people and encouraging their engagement with youth centre services. This role involved guiding young people towards opportunities that supported their personal growth and wellbeing, while helping them feel connected to their community.

I believe in the transformative power of education and mentorship—not only in changing individual lives but also in creating positive ripples throughout entire communities. Through my experiences, I strive to be a voice for those in need of support and a champion for diversity and inclusion.
