Mr. Burke’s Saturday School – UK Black History is a dynamic weekly online programme that explores the rich, powerful, and often untold stories of Black British and Caribbean history. Alongside the historical learning, students also build essential English skills, including comprehension, vocabulary, analysis, and summary writing.

All sessions are taught live by Mr. Burke via Google Meet in small groups (maximum 6 students) to ensure personalised attention, discussion, and focused support.

Who Is This For?

This course is perfect for students who want to strengthen their literacy skills while learning about Black identity, culture, resistance, and heritage.

  • KS3 Students (Years 7–9):
    Saturdays at 5:00 PM (UK Time)
  • KS4 Students (Years 10–11):
    Sundays at 5:00 PM (UK Time)

🕒 Each session lasts 1 hour and 15 minutes, with weekly topics combining historical knowledge with English Language skill-building.

History Topics Include:

  • Black British history and influential figures
  • Caribbean migration, Windrush stories, and resistance movements
  • Colonialism, activism, and civil rights in the UK
  • The legacy of empire and its continuing impact today
